LAMSCOM To Be Relaunched in 2009

Following our #1 tip for “Better Management Through Web 2.o”: sustainability – the LAMS board will be relaunching LAMSCOM next year using a a plan of action!

Content will be expanded to all areas of administration and management for all types of libraries in NYS. Contributors will be from the LAMS board and all LAMS members will be welcome to comment or post something of their own. The goal will be to create a community of library administrators and managers so we can all learn from each other.

Do you need to whip up a staff newsletter or a dazzling board report in a matter of minutes? LetterPop is a good, easy to use Web 2.0 communications application that gives you the tools to quickly create and distribute newsletters. Using drag and drop techniques, you can put together a very sharp newsletter. LetterPop is integrated with flickr, so you can easily upload your own pictures. The basic (free) account allows 10 published newsletters, 10 email sends to 25 email contacts, and 25 picture uploads per year.

A LetterPop drawback is the limitations of the Basic account–only 10 published newsletters and 10 email sends to 25 contacts per year. If you have a small library, then LetterPop could be a useful tool but, if your library is large or you send many newsletters, you’ll quickly reach the Basic limits. At this point you may have to consider upgrading to Premium (52 published, 52 email sends to 500 contacts per year) at $24.98 per year or Business (365 published, 365 email sends to 10,000 contacts per year) at $14.98 per month.

My recommendation: Use LetterPop Basic if you occasionally need to create and distribute newsletters.
